Mary CaryMary Cary is assistant state superintendent leading the Division of Instruction at the Maryland State Department of Education. In that role, she is leading the design and development of the new state curriculum, the Maryland Common Core State Curriculum. In addition, she is responsible for the professional development required to ensure that teachers and principals make a successful transition from the present state curriculum to the full implementation of the new curriculum in 2013. Ms. Cary joined the department in 2000, and from 2000-2010, she was the leader of the Division of Leadership Development. During that time, she co-authored both the Maryland Instructional Leadership Framework and the Leadership Succession Planning Guide for Maryland Schools. She has a long history in education which includes teaching at the secondary level, academic leadership, and administrative leadership. She has been recipient of many awards, such as the Harlow Fullwood Foundation Award for Community Leadership and the Notre Dame College Sarah's Circle award for women providing new models of leadership and service. |
