State Curriculum - Physical Education

 
Grade 3
Standard 1.0 Skillfulness: Students will demonstrate the ability to enhance their performance of a variety of physical skills by developing fundamental movement skills, creating original skill combinations, combining skills effectively in skill themes, and applying skills.
A. Fundamental Movement
1. Demonstrate and apply fundamental movement skills in an authentic situation.
a. Show non-locomotor and locomotor skills in complex movement patterns including the elements of speed, pathways, directionality, levels, and space.
b. Identify and use fundamental movement skills such as: throwing, catching, kicking, and striking in a game or an activity.
c. Identify and show activities that enhance the skill-related fitness components: power, speed, reaction time, agility, balance, and coordination.
B. Creative Movement
1. Demonstrate creative movement skills
a. Use an individual movement sequence to exhibit emotions, expressions and feelings using implements such as: wands, hoops, balls, rhythm sticks, jump bands, and tinikling sticks.
C. Skill Themes
1. Demonstrate skill themes.
a. Use individual skill themes while moving by including throwing, catching, and striking in group games or activities.
b. Show a mature pattern when catching and throwing.
c. Use a tumbling sequence that includes balance, weight transfer, and various body shapes.
