| Marcie Taylor-Thoma is the Coordinator of Social Studies for the state of Maryland. She is also the President of the Council for State Social Studies Supervisors and state coordinator for the "We the People: The Citizen and Constitution Program". Before coming to the Maryland State Department of Education in 1996, she taught first grade through college for over 22 years in several states. Her last teaching position was in Queen Anne's County teaching middle school social studies. Marcie coordinates the American Government testing for the High School Assessments, the Voluntary State Curriculum, and professional development to local school systems. |

| Sarah Beth Brown is a Social Studies Specialist. Before joining MSDE in August 2006, Beth worked for the Howard County Public School System as a Government teacher for four years. Prior to teaching in Howard County, she taught in the Carroll County Public Schools for eleven years. While teaching, she has worked towards a Master of Business Administration to accompany her degree in School Administration. She has enjoyed numerous opportunities to write curriculum and develop activities for professional development workshops. Beth has participated in range finding, item writing, and developing lessons for the online Government course. As a Social Studies Specialist at MSDE, Beth will be working on developing the High School Assessment. |

| Donna Olszewski is a Social Studies Specialist. Prior to joining MSDE in January of 2005, Donna worked in the Baltimore City Schools for 32 years as a classroom teacher, reading teacher, Instructional Support Teacher and Elementary Social Studies Specialist. She participated in numerous curriculum-writing projects for Baltimore City. She was one of the original writers for the Social Studies Voluntary State Curriculum for MSDE. As a Social Studies Specialist at MSDE, Donna continues to work on the development of the VSC and leads a team of writers in the creation of the ToolKit, a resource for teachers of social studies. She is also a District Coordinator for the We The People Program. |
