While reading a narrative text, students should complete a plot diagram. After reading is complete students should isolate the major conflict and determine all ways that it affects the plot, defining its affect on characters and setting. Next students should reverse their thinking and define how characters and setting affect the conflict. Finally students should determine if or how the conflict advances the plot. After students have read a narrative text, the teacher should identify the main conflict in the text. Next teacher and students should identify all major or minor characters involved in the conflict. Each character should be analyzed to determine whether he/she helped to create the conflict, was affected by the conflict, or helped to create and was affected by the conflict. Students should state specifically how these characters created conflict, were affected by conflict, or had roles in both. By analyzing the roles of characters in the conflict, students should determine whether the narrative's conflict was forged from character action or character traits or elements. Conflict:
