Standard 3.0 Life Science |
Topic D. Evolution |
Indicator 1. Explain that individuals of the same kind differ in their characteristics, and sometimes the differences give individuals an advantage in surviving and reproducing. |
|
Objective b. Explain that the characteristics of an organism affect its ability to survive and reproduce. |
Activity |
|---|
Discuss how characteristics provide advantages for many animals. An arctic hare has white fur in the winter that blends in with the snow. This is an advantage because it helps the hare hide from predators. In the spring the hare turns brown which camouflages it from predators by blending into the brush and forest. Show students photographs of the two coat colors. |
