The items appropriately measure the content of the VSC and may be formatted similarly to those appearing on the MSA; however, these are sample items only and have not appeared on any MSA form.

Indicator 1. Measure in customary units

Objective a. Measure length of objects and pictures of objects to the nearest inch using a ruler

Sample Assessment Question (SAQ) Item

Proficient
When asked to measure an object (4 inches long) using an inch ruler, student aligns the inch ruler to the object, measures, and answers, "It's about 5 inches long."

In Process
Student aligns inch ruler to object but answers, "I think it's about 4 inches long."

Needs Development
Student does not align the inch ruler with object and measures incorrectly.
