Sample Assessments: Each sample assessment item gives an idea of how an assessment item on the MSA might be presented. The items appropriately measure the content of the VSC and may be formatted similarly to those appearing on the MSA; however, these are sample items only and have not appeared on any MSA form.

Standard 6.0 Knowledge of Number Relationships and Computation/Arithmetic

Topic A. Knowledge of Number and Place Value

Indicator 1. Apply knowledge of whole numbers and place value

Objective b. Identify multiple representations for a number, such as: 12, 6 + 6, dozen

Sample Assessment Question (SAQ) Item

Proficient
When asked to show ways to represent a chosen number, student shows 3-4 ways. (e.g., tally marks, on a 10-frame or double 10-frame, writes the number word, or draws the number chosen in a pictorial arrangement).

In Process
Student shows, at least, 2 ways to represent a number.

Needs Development
Student does not attempt to represent or record ways to represent a number or records only the numeral.
