Indicator 1. Apply knowledge of whole numbers and place value

Objective b. Construct relationships between and among quantities using language such as: more than, less than, fewer than, as many as, one more, one less

Sample Assessment Question (SAQ) Item

Proficient
Student is consistently observed sorting or comparing groups of objects and stating correctly which groups have more than, less than, or are are equal. Student can also predict the number in a group if it is1 more, 2 more, 1 less, or 2 less.

In Process
Student inconsistently identifies groups that are more than, less than, or are equal. Student has difficulty in predicting the number in a group if it is1 more, 2 more, 1 less, or 2 less.

Needs Development
Student inconsistently identifies groups that have more and cannot identify groups with less or groups that are equal. Student cannot predict the number in a group if it is 1 more, 2 more, 1 less, or 2 less.
