The beginning and middle of the summary adequately relay Kate's part in pushing Seth into the water and the O'Brians offering both Kate and Seth a place to dry off. But the end of the passage is not adequately summarized; the reader shares the talk about boats and the marriage between Seth's dad and Kate's mother but misses the important idea of the argument about how Seth got into the water which shows the characters' dislike of each other and Kate's hostility that any other man would take her father's place as the captain of The Mary Ann. |
