Prior to assuming this position, Ms. Seikaly directed the Department of Instructional and Information Technology for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), a county school district of 120,000 students. In this role she managed the implementation of the school system's Global Access Technology Plan, a 10 year plan to restructure schooling by providing networked computers in every classroom of 180 schools and the staff training needed to use the technology to enhance learning and teaching. She managed the design, procurement, and installation of research learning hubs in 180 schools as well as a Wide Area Network that connected all schools and school-wide local area networks in the first 34 schools to date. Under her supervision, an email and conferencing software package was procured and customized for staff, parents, and students to share information and collaborate online and the school system's first web site was developed including home pages for schools as well as for central office curriculum, information, and administrative departments.
Ms. Seikaly also directed the MCPS Department of Educational Media and Technology, a department that encompassed cable television, school library media programs, electronic graphics and publications, computer-related instruction, computer maintenance, professional library, and film services. In this role she developed the school system's educational technology vision, policy, and strategic plan for which she subsequently supervised the implementation.
During a 30 year tenure with MCPS, Ms. Seikaly also served as an assistant principal and a principal of a middle school; a coordinator of a Computer / Math / Science Magnet Program, the county's first magnet for highly gifted seventh and eighth grade students; a junior and senior high English teacher and department chair, a media specialist; and an interdisciplinary team leader. She received a B.A. in English Education and a M.A. in Educational Media, both from the University of Maryland.
