Preparing For CFIP

This section includes tools for school leaders and team members to use in preparing teachers for the most effective use of the Classroom-Focused Improvement Process. It includes agendas, PowerPoint presentations, and handouts for use in:

  • Two faculty meetings introducing to the total staff the rationale for and the background of the Classroom-Focused Improvement Process
  • Five team meetings in which members are introduced to each CFIP step in detail, and they have the opportunity to practice them in a low-risk environment

SUGGESTED AGENDA FOR DATA TEAM MEETING #5

ONGOING UTILIZATION OF THE CFIP MODEL

When:
Fifth Data Team Meeting
Who:
Grade level or subject area teachers
Goal:
Review all six CFIP steps, respond to any concerns of team members, and plan for the needed professional development to support team members as they use CFIP
Length:
30 minutes - 1 hour
Objectives:
Participants will:
  • Identify and seek to resolve concerns regarding their implementation of the CFIP model
  • Identify and begin to plan professional development and other support for the team to enhance their utilization of CFIP

Sample Agenda:

  1. Review the six steps of the Classroom-Focused Improvement Process by going over again the protocol questions and the template to be completed. Encourage team members to share any questions or concerns they have about any step or question. Seek to resolve as many issues as possible on the spot and plan ways to resolve remaining ones.
  2. Ask team members to identify the drivers (the factors that are helping the team become more data driven) and the barriers (the factors that are keeping the team from becoming more data driven). Use the link Activity Sheet: Where Does My Team Go from Here in Becoming More Data Driven? to record team responses.
  3. Identify the professional development or training experiences that team members suggest would be helpful to them to break down a barrier and so that they will be able to implement the CFIP model more effectively. If possible, begin to plan for this support or assistance.
  4. Brainstorm other strategies to reduce the identified barriers.
  5. Agree on the data to be brought to the next team meeting that will be used as the team begins its use of CFIP.

Suggested Follow-Up:

  1. Pursue appropriately any issues mentioned by team members that remain barriers to the successful implementation of CFIP.
  2. Plan for the suggested professional development or other training opportunities identified by team members.
  3. Arrange to brief the principal on the progress of the team in learning about the CFIP model and issue invitations for the principal and other administrators to participate in future data dialogues.
